Self Reiki After Attunement 1: Why This Is a Remembrance, Not a New Practice

Before we send healing out into the world we have to fill our own cup first. Daily self Reiki keeps your energy clear, grounded and flowing the way it was meant to.

Some of the benefits you may notice with consistent practice

Deeper emotional balance and less reactivity Better sleep and a calmer nervous system Increased clarity and intuition Physical tension release A stronger connection to your own energy field More resilience against absorbing outside energy

Here is the piece people forget. Sending Reiki to others is just as important as receiving it for yourself. Energy is not one directional. What you put out moves through you first. When you give healing you are also receiving it. That exchange is sacred and it keeps the whole system in balance.

When should you start?

Whether you were attuned through Usui or Kundalini lineage, the answer is the same. Start the day of your attunement, or the next day at the latest.

Many Usui lineages teach a 21 day self practice period right after attunement 1, daily hands on practice while your channels settle in. It is worth knowing where that number actually comes from. Usui himself did a 21 day practice of prayer and fasting on Mount Kurama, and that retreat is traditionally credited as the origin of his revelation. The 21 day student practice taught today grew out of that story. Related, but not the same event, a teaching convention rather than a historical rule.

Kundalini Reiki tends to move faster and can open you wider quicker, which makes daily grounding through self practice even more important in the early days.

Either way, do not wait for the "right time" or a special ritual to begin. The attunement is the opening. Your daily practice is what keeps the channel clear and strong.

But here is the deeper truth

Self Reiki was never invented. It was remembered.

Every culture on earth has some form of self healing through touch, breath, or prayer. Reiki as we know it was formalized by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 1900s, but the underlying practice, using intention and the hands to move life force toward healing, is ancient and universal.

A few examples

Ayurveda, India, thousands of years old. Abhyanga is a daily self oil massage meant to move prana, calm the nervous system, and ground the body before the day begins.

Qigong, China, dating back over 2000 years. Self cultivation practices use breath and hand movement to circulate qi, the same life force Reiki calls ki.

Hitbodedut, Jewish mysticism, particularly Breslov tradition. A practice of personal, spoken prayer done alone, often daily, to realign the self with the divine.

Ho'oponopono, Native Hawaiian tradition. Traditionally a family and community reconciliation practice to restore right relationship between people. A self directed version, using the practice for personal energetic cleansing, was popularized more recently and is the form most people know today.

Laying on of hands, Christian tradition. Practiced both on others and in personal prayer, rooted in the belief that healing moves through touch and intention.

Smudging and self blessing, many Indigenous traditions across North America. Daily or ceremonial practices of clearing personal energy before engaging with the world.

None of these traditions call it Reiki. But the pattern is the same everywhere. Still the hands, still the breath, still the intention, turned toward the self first.

Why this matters for your practice

When you sit down for self Reiki, you are not doing something new or trendy. You are joining a lineage of humans across every continent and every era who understood the same truth. You have to tend your own fire before you can offer light to anyone else.

So begin now if you have not already. Daily. Even five minutes, hands on heart, is enough to keep the remembrance alive. Enough to keep the remembrance alive.

Your source of healing and energy work for the Reiki journey.
